As an alternative documentary photographer I want you to show the world how I saw and captured your wedding.  When I say, how I saw your wedding I mean that I want to capture everything from the big I do moments, right down to the smallest of details that will soon be forgotten about.  I capture precisely how the day was, with nothing staged, so only the true you shows through.  If the idea of formal wedding imagery throws you into a complete meltdown, then my relaxed, casual style could well be for you.  It is totally normal for couples to have a few formal images, and that is absolutely great.  Between us we will totally rock those portraits, after all, It’s 100% all about you guys.

So, What Exactly Is An Alternative Documentary Wedding Photographer?

Alternative documentary photography is a way to really tell the story of your amazing day….but with a creative twist.  It allows you and your guests to celebrate your day in the way you want it to be celebrated in, and encapsulates every inch, from the parts you will remember to the little details you will quickly forget about had they not been frozen in time.  It’s a way for those of us that like to be unique and do things in our very own way, including straying away from the traditional ‘wedding photography’.  Sure, your grandma may not always approve, but don’t worry…I have this covered.  We can always shoot a few of the more traditional images to keep the olds happy, if this is what you require?  I won’t hang around shooting these kind of images for too long though, I have too many serious drinking and dancing shots to capture!

I tend to rock up pretty early on at a wedding, but don’t worry…I won’t be getting in the way whilst everyone is buzzing around getting the important things done.  What I will be doing is blending in and capturing those essential moments.  So, when your girls are touching up their nail polish (because it got chipped the night before after one too many vino’s), or making last minute adjustments to your dress, or dad sees you for the first time in your dress.  Let’s not forget the big ‘I do’ moment or when you’re gazing into each other’s eyes whilst getting your shizzle on to your favourite song….you can be confident in knowing I’ll be there capturing those special moments.

The more weddings I have photographed, the more I learn how to anticipate the things that will happen during the day.  This gives me the advantage of being able to anticipate being in the right place at the right time.  Don’t get me wrong….there are times when I do miss a potential picture, and if I’m being honest, I hate it when this happens, but this only encourages me to work harder and document these little memory making moments to the very best of my ability.

When I am documenting weddings, there is absolutely no doubt that at some points during the day I make a bee line after the ‘characters’.  You know the ones?? The uncle Colin’s of the world that are an octave louder than the next person, or the retro inked, beer swigging Talullahs that have the most amazing and contagious laughs.  These guys give me such pleasure photographing them.  I also love to capture the raw emotions of the day.  The real happy tears, the meaningful hugs, the ‘look’ from proud as punch parents…the list can go on and on.  Basically, in a nutshell, I love to capture people.  These guys, the engine behind every wedding are the ones whose emotions I capture throughout the day.  They allow their emotions to be put on display, and just like that ‘snap’ another memory captured.

Once the dust from the big day has settled, the next most exciting thing to happen is for you to look back through your images and relive your day all over again.  You will be able to recapture the love, the laughter and the happiness just by looking at your images.
