So, what is an Alternative Documentary Wedding Photographer?

In a nutshell this is a less intrusive way to capture your big day.  As a alternative documentary wedding photographer I am someone who likes to capture the smaller details as well as the important moments from your big day, using my own unique style and in a non intrusive way. Sometimes this is also referred to as reportage or natural.  For me personally it is also about being totally non-judgemental (I will probably be the most non-judgemental person you will ever come across). I want you to rock those pink locks, show off your amazing ink, swish around like cotton eyed joe in your non traditional sequin saturated dress and just be proud of being be you.  Simply put, if you’re not a fan of being in front of the camera and find that you could have some anxieties building up just at the thought of this, then this could be the ideal style of wedding photography for you.

As your wedding photographer, I will capture all of the genuine moments that happen throughout your day. It will paint the most perfect and authentic picture from your wedding day. Moments like your dad or the girls seeing you in your dress for the very first time or the look on your partners face as you are walking down the aisle towards them. The laughter at the best man’s speech or the kids pulling faces during the ceremony. The real you, the real story and the real atmosphere can be relived through your images for years to come.

Another great reason for hiring a alternative documentary wedding photographer is that I will capture the moments right from the morning when you are getting ready through to the evening and the first dance (and beyond!!). I guarentee there will be moments captured, that you were totally unaware of happening during your wedding day. Without a doubt, you and your new spouse are the most important people at your wedding, but the truth is, the guests are also a massive part of the day and I will be there to capture it all. As an alternative documentary photographer I appreciate that it’s not very often you get to have all your family in one place, so I really try to capture everyone having the best time celebrating with you. So, this will always result in you having a great collection of images of all the people you love and cherish.

So, Alternative Documentary Wedding Photography is exactly what you are after, which is great, but you (or maybe Mum and Dad or Granny and Aunt Flossy) would also like some formal images, can this be done? Absolutely – 100% yes.  This is something that most couples like to include as part of their wedding photography.  These ‘formal’ portraits can be as casual or as posed as you would like.  But, don’t worry about the word formal, you don’t have to be standing up straight like a solider, I will give you direction, like where and how to stand so that your photos don’t look too posed.  I will After all, it’s your wedding day and your images need to be as unique and individual as you.
